If you want to come please Register Now. The 2013 LDSTech Conference will be held October 17–18 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The LDSTech Conference consists of two days of information-packed sessions about Church technology, community sessions for testing and developing Church software, and opportunities to interact with other community volunteers. The conference is free and everyone is invited to attend, regardless of technical skill.

Attendance

There are two ways to view the conference this year: physically present the day of or as a virtual viewer after the event. Only those who will attend in person need go through the registration process. When you register you can select to attend one day or both days. If you intend to view remotely this year, video streaming of the event will be available online in coming days after the scheduled conference in Salt Lake City.

Attending in person

Those who intend to attend the conference on the 17th and/or 18th need to register at tech.lds.org/conf. Registration counts help us plan room sizes, food, and other details.

Lodging
Lodging and public transportation information for LDS Tech Conference attendees has been announced, with the securing of two hotels for attendees. Little America Hotel (500 South Main, Salt Lake City) and University Marriott (just south of the University of Utah campus on Wakara Way Drive) are both offering special rates for conference attendees.

Commercial and Public Transportation
Those flying into Salt Lake City for the conference have both commercial and public transportation options to get to their lodging locations and the conference location. Cabs, limousines and shuttles provided by many hotels both to and from the airport (be sure to ask your lodging option if they are one) are regularly available at the airport.
Public tranpsortation options are also available. Buses and a commuter rail, called TRAX, are both readily available from the airport.
The Bus option costs $2.00 to get into downtown – requesting a bus transfer when you get on will allow you to transfer from the airport line to either the University of Utah line (to get to the conference site or to the University Marriott) or to go south on Main Street (to get to Little America).
TRAX is slightly more expensive, $2.50, but can get you right to Little America or the Conference site (it is just south of the South Campus station for Trax) and just a short walk to University Marriott on Wakara Way Drive.
TRAX’s fare is $2.50 (one way) with a potential $1.25 additional for a one-way route deviation fare. A day pass is $6.25 and a 10-punch route deviation punch card is also available for $12.50 - all the TRAX stations from the airport to the U of U have ticket/fare kiosks which accept credit cards for payment of fares or the day pass or the route deviation fares.
The Green Line (#704) goes from the airport to the Courthouse and then to Little America, continuing on into the southern part of Salt Lake Valley. The Red Line (#704) goes from the southwest part of Salt Lake Valley north until it goes to Little America on Main Street and then to the Courthouse and proceeds easterly to the University of Utah’s South Campus station and beyond. This South Campus station which is the closest to the Conference site location (U of U’s LDS Institute of Religion Building – located immediately south of the TRAX station). The TRAX line does NOT go TO the University Marriott but is very close – a short walk to the south & east, to Wakara Way Drive.
What to bring
You’ll need to bring your own laptop to the conference. Wifi access will be available, but not network ports (due to security restrictions), so make sure your laptop has wireless capability. Also remember your power cords. Plenty of power stations will be available for you to stay charged up. Mobile devices will also be needed if you have them. If you plan to help with Android, iOS or doing any other mobile work, don't forget to bring those devices.
As for what to wear, the dress code is casual to business casual clothing. Jeans are acceptable, but avoid shorts and sandals.
Connecting to WiFi
WiFi will be available to you during the conference. To connect to the WiFi:
  1. Browse the available wireless networks and connect to hills network.
  2. Open browser and point it at tech.lds.org
  3. Enter lds in the First name field.
  4. Enter tech in the Last name field.
Note: for security reasons, you cannot plug directly into a network port. Make sure your laptop has wireless capability.

View recordings streamed online

If you can’t attend the conference in person, you can view any session via streaming technology after the event. We will post more details about the sessions that will be streamed as the conference approaches. To view the stream, you need only a computer and high speed Internet connection.

The 2013 LDSTech Conference will feature a new "Idea Share" session designed to give you the chance to share your software and technology project ideas for potential sponsorship. If you have a great idea for a Church application, or have already developed an application on your own and want to see it become an official Church application, this is your chance to communicate this information to Church employees. The fourth annual LDSTech Conference will be held October 17–18, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah. LDSTech fosters collaboration on technology projects between the Church and volunteers from the technology community.
This conference covers the latest in Church technology and consists of two full days of information-packed sessions about Church technology, community sessions for testing and developing Church software, and opportunities to interact with other community volunteers.
While the event is free and open to everyone regardless of technical skill, those interested in attending are urged to register prior to the event at tech.lds.org/conf after signing in with their LDS Account.
Organizers already have several hundred preregistrations and expect 500 to 1,000 attendees. “Last year at this conference, we had about 1,400 register, with about half of them showing up and actually attending,” said Alan Smoot, a solution manager in the Church’s IT department, ICS, which sponsors the LDSTech conference.
The event will be held at the University of Utah’s LDS Institute of Religion building (1780 East South Campus Drive, on Salt Lake City’s East Bench) all day on both October 17 and 18, 2013.
Morning schedules for both Thursday and Friday begin at 8:00 a.m. with a free continental breakfast. Keynote speakers will open each day’s session at 9:00 a.m. Blaine Maxfield, managing director of ICS (the Church’s IT department), will be the keynote speaker on Thursday, and David Warner, managing director of the Church’s Priesthood Department, will be the keynote speaker on Friday.
Two 45-minute presentation periods will begin each day at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Check the conference schedule for the different subjects. Lunch will be served each day at noon. From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. will be a time for networking, browsing the booths, working on projects, and sharing ideas with LDSTech managers. This sharing time will be open but limited to 15-minute discussions, demonstrations, mini presentations, or just talking about the ideas.
The list of applications and projects available for display, demonstration, and to work on during the conference afternoons include LDS.org applications, meetinghouse technologies, mobile apps, and more. Attendees can sign up for as many project sessions as they want during the two days.
One purpose of the conference is to provide a time and space for project teams to work together. Several project work sessions are scheduled as part of the conference. Smoot suggests attendees join the project on LDSTech after signing up for a particular project session. “We’ve found that anybody can be helpful when it comes to testing,” said Smoot. “People can test beta versions using their own computers, devices, and logins. That kind of diversity is hard to replicate internally.”
Many LDSTech conference attendees want to learn more about Church technology rather than participate on projects. Because of this interest, expanded educational offerings with more presentations, more booths, handouts, and other information about a variety of Church technology resources are being offering during the conference. Morning presentations will be recorded for remote viewers to stream online after the conference.
The halls and foyers of the conference area will have information booths and experts to provide information about popular Church products. Classes and tutorial sessions will be held on a number of common Church tech products, such as the LDS.org calendar or personal video conferencing.
Registering now and then signing up to attend sessions helps ensure a presentation or project will have a large enough room reserved to hold all attendees. It also helps presenters plan their presentation to suit a particular size of audience and provides a final headcount of who will be physically attending the conference.   • The 183rd Semiannual General Conference of the Church is October 5 and 6, 2013.
The 183rd Semiannual General Conference of the Church, to which all members are invited, will convene in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6, 2013, with general sessions each day at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. mountain daylight time.
The general priesthood meeting will be held in the Conference Center on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. MDT. For the first time, the priesthood session will be available live in expanded digital channels, including LDS.org, Mormon Channel, and BYU Television.
For general sessions, members of the Church are encouraged to participate via radio, television, satellite, Internet transmission on LDS.org, or local meetinghouses. Where distances permit, priesthood holders are encouraged to attend the priesthood meeting at their local chapel. Generally, the usual Sunday meetings need not be held on October 6.
Local leaders have the option to adjust meeting schedules or, where appropriate, to rearrange the agenda of regularly scheduled meetings to permit their members to listen to or watch general conference by radio, television, satellite, or Internet transmission.
Viewing Live
Members can watch conference in their homes or in their meetinghouses. To view conference at local meetinghouses, check with local leaders on availability of the broadcast by satellite or Internet feed.
