June 30th, 2011 RS Senior Sisters Luncheon (70 & above :)
Each year, for over 15 years, Riverton 1st Ward RS Presidency makes and serves lunch to the senior sisters in our community who are 70+ years 'young'. We all had a wonderful time enjoying being together and learning from each other! This year it was held at the home of Alisa Madill and we ate salads, roast beef, potatoes and gravy and pie for desert. Also we all were pleased to enjoy a poetry reading by Lavon Usher (94 years young)
Lavon Usher Reads her Poem;
"Do Mirrors Tell the Truth?"
My boyfriend and husband to be
Gave me a beautiful mirror
For my birthday one day
I looked in the mirror and saw,
I sweet young girl smiling at me.
I took that gift and hid it away,
For future use for another day.
Time went on and so did I.
And the mirror stayed in it's place.
Years later I remembered the gift,
And took it from it's hiding place-
I wanted to see that same sweet girl smiling at me.
I picked up the mirror,
And was shocked as could be,
I saw an old women looking back at me!
Her hair was white,
Her lips were blue,
And her checks had wrinkles too.
MIRROR, MIRROR how could you do this to me?
You made me cry and I sure felt blue,
For I only wanted to see,
That I still looked like the girl that smiled at me.
