Shirley Bowen Holt
1930 ~ 2013
Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and wife, Shirley passed away at home on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Shirley Louise Bowen Holt was born to Earl and Ella Bowen on July 16, 1930. She married her sweetheart Golden Ray Holt on August 19, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shirley had a very special relationship with her only sibling and best friend, Earlene Larson. Shirley developed a strong work ethic from a young age. She was employed at the local movie theater where she met her sweetheart of 63 years, Ray. A gifted student, Shirley graduated at the top of her Jordan High School class where she became an expert at shorthand. This talent and her amazing organizational skills were integral later in life as she worked side by side with her husband in creating the Utah School Employees Association. She worked for Sandy City serving three different mayors as the "Mayor's Office Manager", aka "M.O.M." as the many who she came in contact with affectionately called her. She retired from Sandy City and continued to support her husband in the day to day details of their Landscaping Business. Shirley was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in many capacities. Shirley loved music, especially when sung by her grandchildren and all things pink. She was a lady in every aspect of the word. The place she loved most was her home where she enjoyed having her family, friends and loved ones around her. Especially admirable was the loving and devoted relationship Shirley had with her sweetheart Ray. As accomplished and talented as Shirley was, she would say her greatest gift and legacy is her family. Shirley is survived by her husband Ray, her six children, Radene Chapman (Hal), Sandra Nielsen (Roger), Suzanne Frandsen (Lloyd), Golden (Dorene), David B and Shirley Ann Collins (Michael), 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Riverton 1300 West Chapel, 12998 South 1300 West. Viewings will be held at the church from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening and 1 hour prior to the services on Thursday. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery.
