2012 Weekday Meetings

January:"Attitude of Gratitude" Activity on January 18th Corby Cambell came and we were spiritually uplifted as we were sung to and taught about gratitude. Carolyn Jackson also taught us and we make “Gratitude Jars” for each sister to take home families could write about things that they are grateful for and add to the jar - then on Thanksgiving take out the items and read as a family, & their journals... Pictures and songs are here on our RS Blog... for those that would like to review the night, and for those that wanted to see it but missed it.

February: Stake RS Activity - How Firm a Foundation Dinner & Classes

March: “Forget Not” RS Birthday Dinner Party Celebration: Special Dinner and Musical Program, performed & written by sisters in RS

April: MTC “Member Training Center” Mother’s of Missionaries spoke, displays were brought by sisters who had served, and of current missionaries out. We were taught:

How to raise future Missionaries

Being a Member Missionary

A Homemade Flour Tortilla Demo was given

Displays/Handouts/Taster’s Table

May: Freezer Meals Service Project: We made freezer meals that our compassionate service leader saved and then gave out to those in need in 2012. Recipes were shared so that we all could make freezer meals for our families if we chose to.

June: “How Sweet it Is” Cupcakes were decorated and then delivered to sisters in the ward, we also were given booklets to help up memorize “The Living Christ” Ellen Ford bore testimony of this and RaNae Colby taught the spiritual thought.

August: Ward Summer Party

September: Temple Session and Breakfast

October: Wonderful Wednesday We enjoyed each others company as we ate dinner, listened to a ‘personal history wrap up’ guest speaker - Brother Homer , completed a service project for Niki Kearns (who had just be diagnosed with Leukemia) - we made a quilt for her to take to the hospital and crocheted & knitted Chemo hats for the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, we also worked on homemaking projects and crafts and learned how to make homemade caramel apples - demonstration

November: Thanks for the Giving We had a Charlie Brown thanksgiving meal, made homemade cards, and encouraged each sister in our ward to show thanks for what we have been given by completing one simple “random act of kindness” … thank someone for something they have done, pray for knowledge of someone in need, choose one thing out of the ordinary that you can SIMPLY do this month... it can be anonymous, or a note/letter sent in the mail, a small something left or done for someone. (This began our new page on our blog “Good Things”)

December: Blankets were put together by the RS, then delivered to the widows/widowers in the ward by the YM/YW, we also enjoyed a Ward Christmas Breakfast, made by the Men.

Activity Topics 2011

January: RS Reading Program Introduced - We are reading the Book of Mormon this year - small assignments each week help us to study and finish the B.O.M. this year :) Pie Making w/Ardith Lund, & 72 hour kit display

February: Favorite Things, each sister brought their 'favorite thing' to share and we had a chocolate dipping demonstration by Dee Maynard

March:Relief Society Celebration Dinner "March is Made for Memories":Preserving Our Past, Present, and Future
Sisters brought/shared their favorite soup, salad and/or roll recipes for all to taste that night as we enjoyed eating dinner together and feeling the 'relief' that being 'together' in Relief Society can bring- we celebrated the 169th year since the Relief Society organization was founded by the Prophet Joseph Smith on March 17, 1842, in Nauvoo, Illinois. In the days of its founding, it had two main purposes: to provide relief for the poor and needy and to bring people to Christ. We ate birthday cake and everyone also left with NEW favorite soup and roll recipes! YEAH for dinner help!

April: Trip to the Riverton Family History Library, & RS Journal Writing Program began- each week sisters have the opportunity to write a journal entry during the time between Sunday School and RS if they choose to -- our goal is to be able to end this year with at least one entry per month, or up to as much as 1 per week for all sisters who would like to participate.

May: Summer Survival Activity, recipes were shared for healthy eating, there was a great 'clothing exchange' where many sisters donated and many benefited as we took home gently used and some even new clothes :) We also had a lesson about spring cleaning where Gail Rollo gave us tips.

June: Fay Stradley and Kate Knaras Journal Ideas Fay is 91 and Kate is 19, and we were richly taught by both with ideas of how to make our journaling fun, organized and beneficial to our posterity.

July: Joseph Smith Building **Legacy Theater Temple Square**The Legacy Theater, a 500 seat theater located inside the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, is now playing Joseph Smith: the Prophet of the Restoration. We traveled as a RS to watch it!

August: We enjoyed classes on Canning, Food Shopping, and Food Storage. Folders were given out along with many handouts -- see happenings books on Sunday to receive yours.

September: Financial Planning We attended a class taught by Michael Perry at the Riverton Church Office Building. All that were there learned some great tips on becoming financially stable. If you could not attend that night, this class is taught on the third Wednesday of each month from 6-9pm. (There are many other wonderful classes offered - take the time to visit and pick your favorites)

October: Wonderful Wednesday Everyone had a 'WONDERFUL' time Wednesday at the Riverton 1st Ward RS meeting!! It was well attended and enjoyed by many ( sisters even came from other wards and places to join us! We LOVED it!) We enjoyed each others company as we ate dinner, worked on homemaking projects and crafts we could give as gifts -we also enjoyed soup demonstrations (THANKS so much Sis. Elise Williams for the demonstration and to our RS Meeting Committee for such a wonderful evening- a very special thanks too to our very talented Sis. Lisa Atwood for all the wonderful craft ideas!! ) We also sampled and received many wonderful fall recipes that night! (Thank you Cathy for the wonderful food!) (See the handout booklet right here:) for the recipes from Wonderful Wednesday, and - as per request- all handouts will now be listed on this blogsite for your convenience in printing out)

November (A time to remember what we are 'thankful for') We teamed up with our Young Women and made blankets for The Road Home Shelter. (Nov. 29 is the delivery day to the shelter - all RS/YW sisters are invited) Thank you to all those that participated! A great tradition of service has begun. It feels good to know we are helping someone to feel warmer and loved during this holiday season. (Maybe we can save up for next year and do it again YW :)! o
